About me
Passion for Real Estate and Technology by Sergio Rojas Leyva
Since very early age I’ve been involved with real estate, my father who is a retired residential local developer at Mexico City introduced me to real estate when I was just a kid. I was connected to real estate in several ways, first finding a good land option or existing building (I would like to say that a lot of opportunities of acquiring a good property came alone to my dad), then structuring the project, making the construction or the adequations and then finally looking for right tenants for the property, negotiating and closing the lease contract, as well I took part on the management of rent collection, lease renewal and looking for a new tenant from scratch when a tenant left the space.
I would like to mention that my professional background is on technology, I hold a computer science engineer bachelor degree from Tec de Monterrey and early on my professional career I loved to program and develop applications (mostly in Java). Nevertheless, I have had always a strong attachment to real estate and I’ve been able to integrate very well two of my passions, real estate + technology.
Several years ago, I made the commitment to myself to follow a real estate path for the rest of my professional career, until now I’ve the feeling that I I’ve taken the best decision.
In my opinion, real estate is sexy in every way that you can think on. You can find art such as sculptures, paintings in the lobby of a great office building, even the building is art itself (Chapultepec Uno at Reforma Avenue is a wonderful example, what about the view?). To work in amazing office spaces is incredible, and what is important is all what happens inside, professional and personal relationships are built (or not), dreams come true (or not). How great is to pick your coffee in the morning and enjoy the moment in the line with your friend that you work with (while you wait you usually talk about how you will conquer the world).
Retail is another great story, new malls are providing great experience to customers, as well you can have a delicious dinner, or a delightful cup of coffee, earlier you visited your favorites stores and you bought that shoes or shirt that will fit to you incredibly, or maybe (as I love to) you went to the bookstore and you enjoyed reviewing the latest releases and you took some books that will give you great ideas, entertainment or even will improve your life.
Industrial property for me is a hidden world that few know about and so much mystic happens inside these kind of facilities, from aircraft propeller construction (that actually happens today at Queretaro aerospace Park as well as the construction of other aircraft essentials) with super complex processes and high quality and security standards, everything operated by committed and hard working professionals, using technology, vehicles, collaborating in a highly integrated environment with suppliers and clients, all these ingredients enable and create an incredible capacity to produce and distribute millions of products such as beer, food, clothes, auto parts, aircraft parts, you name it. We all know that today distribution (mainly drived by e-commerce) is the thing!
